Back in town

So, it has been a while since I've last posted anything.  However, since then, not much has changed.  We are closer to an election.  Yet, our country is still in as bad of shape as it was just a year ago.  Little to no growth has been seen anywhere.  Our fearless leader has started campaigning already and spinning the facts.

It is time for all Americans to unite and for Catholics to lead the way.

Our tax system is broke

An article published in the New York Times today, I.R.S. Watchdog Calls for Tax Code Overhaul, states that the tax code must redone.  It is true, the tax code is so complicated that it is impossible for the average person to know what to do.  As a matter of fact, the Wall Street Journal, 'Temporary' Tax Code Puts Nation in a Lasting Bind, shows us that many of tax codes are just a band aid that are renewed each year.
It is easy to see that something must be done to revise our tax code.  The answer is not a simple one, but it is an interesting discussion.  As Catholics, we are obligated to pay our taxes.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church in Paragraph 2240 states:

Welcome the 112th Congress

I know it has been a while since positing anything here, but have I have had a busy Christmas and New Year's.  I have moved back home and in the process of trying to find a job.  I left my old job because I am ready to pursue other things in my life.  At a time like this, some people might think it is crazy to leave a job; however, I did not want to continue at the pace of my former job.  Additionally, I want to spend more time with those who I love.

Michelle Obama, Proud American

This is relatively old news, before President Obama was elected.  However, I just thought it was worth bringing back up.  It is so nice to see that the first family has always been so proud to be Americans.  Oh wait, only when it is good for them?  My mistake.

Catholics of the 112th Congress

The National Catholic Register recently produced a list of all Catholics in the upcoming 112th Congress.  The article, Meet the Catholics in Congress,  states that 28% of members in the new Congress are Catholic.  With a number like that, you would think that there would more pro-life and conservative ideas coming out of Washington.  However, the article also states how the member voted on pro-life issues since 1997.

Immigration Reform

It is obvious that our immigration situation is out of control.  Today, illegal immigrants pose a serious threat to our  security.  Additionally, it causes a financial drain on our economy.  Now, I am not saying that we must deport all illegal immigrants or that they are evil or anything to that extreme.  Our country is one of immigration, that is how most of us came to the United States.  However, measures must be taken to improve our current immigration situation.

Health Care bill ruled unconstitutional

Today, U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson ruled that part of the health care bill past in March is unconstitutional.
It would be wonderful for all Americans to have health care; however, the federal government has no right in telling individual Americans what they must buy or not buy or how to run a company.  If a person owns a company, he should be allowed to determine what benefits to offer the employees.  This helps increase the strength of businesses.  Better employees will go to companies that offer better benefits and pay.  Small, startup businesses will be stifled in having to provide health care to its employees before it can financially support it.

Catholic Church will never permit condoms

There has been much talk recently on a portion of the new book released based on an interview with Pope Benedict XVI.  I have not read the book, but plan to purchase it this weekend.  The media has grabbed a remark the Pope made about the use of condoms and taken it out of context.  The media wants people to believe that the Pope is starting to alter the Church's stance on the use of condoms.  Why?  Because they do not understand that some people, such as Catholics, believe that marriage is sacred, that one should not have sex before marriage, that actively preventing pregnancy, and having an abortion are all wrong.  It is totally contrary to the "norm" of the world (which is one of the sources of temptation: the world, the flesh, and the devil).
